Animal Health Center is excited to announce the newest addition to our In-House Laboratory & Radiology Center, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). This is the most advanced non-invasive diagnostic tool available worldwide and we are the first privately owned Veterinary Hospital to have 24-7, on-premise access within the greater New York City area. We are dedicated to providing the fastest, most advanced, and least invasive methods to aid in our diagnostic process.
WHY MRI?
MRI has superior contrast resolution over any other diagnostic imaging modality (CAT scan, ultrasound, x-rays, etc.). Subsequently, MRI is most effectively used to evaluate the central nervous system (brain & spinal cord), soft tissues, abscesses, and enclosed structures (i.e. nasal cavity). It’s diagnostic superiority and non-invasive nature, make it ideal for pre-surgical planning in cancer patients.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
A strong magnetic field is created by the passing of an electric current. Excited protons stimulate spinning and this energy (current) is then captured through radio waves in special coils and processed into images. This non-invasive test gives superior imaging results over other imaging modalities.
OUR EXPERTISE.
In addition to using the most cutting-edge equipment and having an in-house, state-of-the-art Imaging Center & Laboratory, we employ the most knowledgeable experts to analyze our findings. Veterinary Radiologist Dr. Patrick R. Gavin specializes in MRI and has a strong educational and professional background in veterinary practice and diagnostic imaging. Additionally, Dr. David Pinson will be leading the Histopathology Department in identifying various cancers and inflammatory diseases.
